Millers Linked With Two Strikers

|

The people ‘in the know’ must have been looking at Rotherham United’s ‘shots on target’ to ‘goals scored’ stats as we are being linked with two strikers this weekend.

Firstly the The 72 are linking us with Accrington Stanley’s Dion Charles while the Football League World has us looking at Paul Mullin of Cambridge United.

Merseyside born Paul played one hundred and forty times for Morecambe scoring twenty-eight goals before he had a season at the County Ground with Swindon Town. From there he went to Tranmere scoring twelve times in fifty-six appearances, helping them to League One and impressed enough in a loan spell with Cambridge for them to sign him last season where he scored thirty-four goals in fifty appearances in all competitions breaking the League Two goal scoring record.

Dion came through the ranks with Blackpool going on to play for Conference North outfit Fylde before 2016 saw him sign for Fleetwood in League One. He then went out on loan to Halifax before joining National League North side Southport scoring twice on his debut. In the summer of 2019 Accrington paid an undisclosed fee for the then twenty-three year old who has gone on to play ninety times for Stanley scoring twenty-nine goals of which twenty came this season.

Both these players seem to know where the net is (we certainly need goals) and IF the Millers are interested in either of them then the one I’d think was more up Paul Warne’s street would be Dion Charles who, like him has played in the lower leagues.

But, these are only rumours of course and with the Gaffer saying this week that he doubts we will be doing any business until July so may one or both of these goalscorers could have been snapped up by other teams before then.

Caz, I honestly hold you in high regard. But one thing really, really annoys me and if you could stop doing it I would be eternally grateful. You constantly refer to Warne as “the Gaffer.” In The Lord of the Rings Sam Gangee’s dad is the gaffer. In common parlance “the Gaffer” is an old and established retainer or servant. In sports terms the name is usually used for someone with a long established track record to whom younger coaches look up. Warne is none of those things. Why the f*ck to you call him constantly “the Gaffer”? If you could stop it I would be in your debt. The guy has done nothing to merit the title and to me it just seems daft.

Sorry I’ve annoyed you Kev. but it’s what the lads call him so it’s what I call him – maybe it’s because he’s been at the club longer than anyone else?
