Millers Boss Please With Battling Team

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne thought he was in Disneyland after tonight’s two-one win away at Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking to IFollow after doing the double over our South Yorkshire neighbours for the first time ever the Millers Boss said, ‘It’s pretty Disney like.’

And it was wasn’t it. Opening the scoring with a great Michael Smith header on seventeen minutes, the goalscorer getting his marching orders for a something that really was a bit of handbags mid-way through the second half, a lucky ricochet of Matt Olosunde giving the hosts an equaliser and then a stunning strike way into time added on from Freddie Ladapo, it was the stuff dreams are made off.

‘I didn’t think we played as well as we could in the first half,’ the Gaffer said, ‘but created the best chances. Then to go down to ten men and battle the way we did and then getting a winning goal like we did was surreal. If nothing else happens to me in football management I will never forget that, it’s just heartbreaking that there are no fans here.

‘We might have faults in our team but our lads give everything they can and I’m really pleased for them. We tried to hit an emotional chord with them before they went out and I told them they were playing for Rotherham people, for their families. And it was a real character performance and as pride goes, tonight is probably the proudest.’

And along with all that pride we have Freddie Ladapo who joins the likes of Darren Garner, Matt Derbyshire, Richie Barker, Joe McBride as a Millers hero.

But although the Gaffer was relishing the win he knows that the Millers still have a hard task ahead of them and that starts at the weekend with the visit to Brentford.
