Rotherham United lost their first home league game this lunchtime against neighbours Sheffield Wednesday by two goals to nil and had a penalty saved.
But it was the Millers who had the better stats.
Fifty-five per cent possession and eight corners to nil saw the Millers better than their rivals although it was the Owls who had the better of the aerial duels. Our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out at fifty-six per cent which was twelve per cent better than the visitors.
The Millers had fourteen shots at goal, seven which were outside the box and seven inside, of which two were on target with Wednesday having five on target from seven shots.
Our tackle success rate was seventy-seven per cent while we conceded seventeen fouls getting one yellow card to the visitors twelve and receiving four yellow cards.
I don’t think we played particularly badly today but some of our passing leaves a lot to be desired. Losing Chieo was a big blow and I don’t think Sadlier got over his penalty miss – well save – because the rest of his game wasn’t up to his usual standard. I think it was Ben Wiles’ best game for a while but, not pointing fingers, but what a mess-up for their second goal. I also think JJ (Kayode) is looking more promising with each game – and we certainly need him to step up now and show us what he’s made of.
Let’s just mention ‘offsides’ – our tally was six today and I believe they were all given by the linesman on the dugout side. Not to put too finer point on it he was poor, blimey we’ve even got straight lines mowed into the pitch for him to look down. I’d like to say he’d learned the offside rule for the second half but clearly that wasn’t the case.
Another derby game next Saturday when Doncaster Rovers are in town, let’s hope the turnstiles are working and we have a linesman who knows the rules.

Better side lost today without a doubt ,losing ogbene was a massive blow to the millers but that’s the nature of the beast , totally agree with you caz JJ is looking better with each game he plays , can warne bring another striker in before window closes is anybody’s guess , only need smith out and we are struggling but let’s take the positive from today good performance ,passing could be better at times overall 👍👍👍 l
I just don’t know where we are going to find another striker from, Stuart. Things have gone quiet on that front, although I don’t suppose that’s a bad thing as nobody else can get in before we umm and ahh about paying what’s being asked for him. I think we were the better side but I suppose I am biased. Losing Chieo is a biggie isn’t it.
Better side WON today!!
14 attempts at goal, 2 on target & one was a penalty, the only stat that matters is Wednesday scored twice.
That’s the only stat that people will see, certainly Gerimo. But if we, as Millers, can take positives from a two-nil home loss then I don’t think things are that bad for us.
