Warne ‘Pen Miss Was Turning Point’

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne says the penalty save by Sheffield Wednesday’s Bailey Peacock-Farrell was probably the turning point of the game.

Joshua Kayode won the penalty with the visiting ‘keeper making a very good save from Kieran Sadlier in time added on in the first half.

Speaking after the two-nil home loss to their neighbours the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield that apart from the last twenty minutes, he was pleased with his teams performance.

‘I thought we were really good first half,’ Warne said, ‘but it was a massive blow Chieo (Ogbene) having to come off. And the penalty miss was a big thing just before half-time. Though it was a great save and I don’t think anyone can argue that he’s the best ‘keeper in League One. Then they got their goal but I honestly thought we were going to score an equaliser.’

I think a lot of us thought the same. Sheffield Wednesday weren’t better than us today, as good as us maybe, but never better. Then a couple of mistakes led to their second goal which more or less killed it for the Millers.

‘When their second goal went in the lads looked a little bit beaten and probably felt a little bit sorry for themselves,’ Warney said.

‘I thought it was a good performance but it’s the score line that matters.’

A poor challenge on Ogbene saw him receive treatment on the pitch then he tried to run it off but had to be replaced just twenty-five minutes into the game with what seems to be tightness in his hamstring and it seems he might be out for a couple of weeks which Warney says is ‘a blow’ – and it certainly is.

Admitting that he probably needs to bring in another forward before the window shuts the Boss said he’s been trying to fetch one in since the summer but things haven’t happened and he says he’s not convinced that anything will.
