How Much Will We Miss Chieo

Rotherham United fans had the bad news of hearing that Chieo Ogbene is going to be out for some weeks after an operation was needed on an injury he got in training.

The twenty-three year old winger arrived at the New York Stadium in August 2019 going on to make twenty-nine appearances soon becoming a fans’ favourite – and we are going to miss him.

We will miss his pace, his ability to look up and send a ball in to a colleague and although he might not score many goals he will often have a shot. Millers Boss Paul Warne has had times said the winger is ‘unplayable’ and although that might be a bit biased he often gets by his marker and others to send decent balls into the box.

Born in Nigeria Chieo’s family moved to Ireland when he was a young boy and he began his footballing career with his home team Cork City. He went on to play for Limerick before moving to England with Brentford in 2018 and then onto Rotherham.

Chieo’s pace was sadly missed on Saturday against Huddersfield and with the lad having to have an operation on his knee then we are going to be missing him for at least eight weeks. On the up side, if there is an up side, this has happened early in the season and he is young and strong enough to be able to get over the operation and get back to full fitness quickly.

It does beg the question of how many of our players get injured in training? It seems to me like it’s quite a number. Do we train them too hard? Are the training pitches not what they should be? Or is it that we are just unlucky?

Get well soon Chieo.
