How Are Our Loaned In Players Doing

Rotherham United have five loan players on their books at the moment – but how are they getting on?

Arvin Appiah arrived at the very beginning of August on loan from Spanish La Liga side Almeria. The twenty-three year old winger likes to get forward and it was excited Rotherham fans who welcomed him to the New York Stadium. He’s made twenty-five appearances in all competitions for the Millers, his first being our home game against Leicester City in August. He’s had just six starts in his time at Rotherham and, I think it’s fair to say, hasn’t done as well as we were all expecting.

U21 Aston Villa defender Seb Revan joined the Millers on 1st September starting his first game nineteen days later away at Millwall. He’s gone on to play twenty-eight more games in a Millers shirt, one of those an FA Cup match, helping Rotherham keep three clean sheets. He’s a player who likes to get forward and zips up and down the pitch helping at both ends and it was interesting to see that Matt Taylor, who brought Seb to the New York Stadium, thought he might play him on the wing if needed – which I can say I ever saw him do – but he’s certainly been one of the first names of the team sheet.

The final day of the January transfer window saw Leam Richardson add Andy Rinomhota, Femi Seriki and Charlie Wyke to the squad.

Midfielder Andy joined from Cardiff City until the end of the season his first game seeing him come off the bench at Elland Road, when Rotherham were already three down. He’s started six of the other eight games he’s been involved in and was voted  the Mattress Online Man of the Match in our last game at home to Huddersfield Town. Each game he’s been involved in the twenty-six year old has given a solid performance and, during this international break, has been called up by his national side Zimbabwe playing in yesterday’s ‘Four Nations Friendly Tournament’ two-all draw with Zambia, scoring in the penalty shoot-out which Zimbabwe won.

Twenty-one year old Femi, another midfielder, signed on loan from neighbours Sheffield United and two days later came off the bench in our home game against Southampton. He has been involved in another four games, starting the game at Loftus Road against Queens Park Rangers. We haven’t seen as much as Femi as he probably would have liked so far but when he comes off the bench he seems to fit into his position.

A late addition, Charlie, joined from Wigan Athletic where he’d been getting regular game time. His first game saw the striker start in the Millers home game against Hull City and he’s gone on to make another seven appearances, the majority off the bench and he’s yet to score a goal but that could well come sooner rather than later.

If available, are there any of our loan players you’d like to see in a Millers shirt next season?
