The next game at the New York Stadium sees Rotherham United welcome Watford for their fourth visit to the ground.
Watford were last in town in September 2022 when the end result was a battling draw. Richard Wood put the Millers in front on just two minutes and it could have been more but for the Hornets defenders. Just after the half-hour mark a superb volley from Vakoun Bayo gave the visitors a point.
Francisco Sierralta put Watford in front on a Tuesday night game in March 2021 in Rotherham on just nine minutes with Ismaila Sarr making it two seventeen minutes later. Ken Sema made it three for the visitors in the first half. Rotherham got a penalty early in the second half after William Troost-Ekong fouled Michael Smith in the area with Smith taking the spot-kick and missing. A great run and strike saw Freddie Ladapo pull one back for the Millers but a minute later Dan Gosling made it four-one to the Hornets.
The first time the Hornets were here was in August 2014 and while Paul Taylor, on loan from Ipswich, and Lee Frecklington missed chances for the hosts it was Watford who broke the deadlock with fifteen minutes to go when Lloyd Dyer took advantage of a parried save from Adam Collins to slot home then evaded his cheering team mates to rush over to the bench and appear to have words with his manager Beppe Sannino. Gianni Munari made it two-nil to the visitors on eighty-seven minutes.
For the game before this that the two met on Rotherham soil we have to go back to April 2005 when a goal just after the half-hour mark from Heider Helguson gave the visitors all three points.
The last time the Millers beat Watford at Millmoor was in November 2002 when both teams were in League One. Martin McIntosh opened the scoring for the hosts four minutes before half-time but Dominic Foley equalised on the hour mark. Richie Barker got the winner for the Millers seven minutes later.
The game in November at Vicarage Road was an emphatic win for the hosts with two Mileta Rajovic goals before half times plus second-half goals from Edo Kayembe, Tom Ince and Matheus Martins gave the Hornets a five-nil win.
