Rotherham United travel to the Alexandra Stadium for the second time this season, the first being in the Papa John’s Trophy at the beginning of the month which was a four-two win for the Millers.
The last league game between the pair in Crewe was in August 2013 and saw six goals. It took debutant Anthony Grant just three minutes to put the hosts in front with Max Clayton doubling the lead on nine minutes. A minute later Lee Frecklington pulled one back for the visitors but a Harry Davis penalty just after half-time, after Claude Davis had fouled Ryan Colclough, made it three-one to the hosts. Four minutes from time Ben Pringle made it three-two and a stunner from Frecklington on the stroke of full-time gave the Millers an away point.
August 2011 was a League Two game between the two at the Alexandra Stadium when Adam Le Fondre put the visitors in front in the first half and a second half goal from Ben Pringle double the lead with Byron Moore getting consolation for the home team.
In November 2010 an own goal on two minutes by Adam Dugdale gave the Millers the win and the season before saw five goals when Steven Schumacher scored for the hosts on six minutes with Kevin Ellison getting an equaliser nine minutes later. Calvin Zola put the Alex back in front on the fifty-first minute with an Adam Le Fondre penalty making it two-two. Five minutes from time Drewe Broughton made it three-two to the Millers giving them all three points.
The last time Crewe beat Rotherham at their home ground in the league was a League One game in March 2007 when the only goal of the game came on sixteen minutes from Darren Moss although they were also the winners in an FA Cup game in 2017 the game ending two-one.
The game at the New York Stadium in September saw Ollie Rathbone put the hosts in front but in time added on Wes Harding saw red for pulling down Chris Porter in the area with the offended getting up and scoring the resulting spot-kick to get a point for the Alex.
