Rotherham United’s Good Friday game sees them travel to Deepdale to take on Preston North End.
The last time the pair met on Preston soil was in August 2022 when, despite both sides having chances, the game ended goalless.
February 2021 was the last time the pair met at Preston where a Joe Rafferty own goal in the first minute gave the Millers the lead. Against run of play Ben Wiles doubled Rotherham’s lead on fifty-five minutes with the hosts pulling one back on sixty-five minutes through Ched Evans.
The pair also met at Preston in October 2018 which saw them get a point apiece. Tom Barkhuizen gave the hosts the lead five minutes from the end of the first half but the Millers came out fighting in the second half and a fierce shot from Michael Smith earned them their fifth draw in six games.
Both teams got a point again at Deepdale which in April 2017. Richie Smallwood put the Millers in front on nine minutes but Stevie May equalised four minutes before half-time to make it one-all.
January 2016 when the pair met in Preston saw an Anthony Andreu goal put the Millers in front on thirty-five minutes. But an Eoin Doyle goal in the second half and an unfortunate own goal in the final minute of the game from Jonson Clarke-Harris gave the hosts a two-one win. The only yellow of the game was shown to Rotherham’s Joe Newell.
The time before that when the sides met at Deepdale was for the League One Play-Off semi-final in May 2014.The game that evening saw the teams draw one-all after Alex Revell had put the visitors in front on twenty-one minutes. Joe Garner equalised four minutes into the second half. The League game earlier in the season in February was also a drawn game which saw six goals. Lee Frecklington opened the scoring for the Millers on seven minutes with an own goal from Tom Clarke four minutes later giving them a two-nil lead before Craig Davies halved the deficit going into half-time. Paul Gallagher scored the equaliser on the hour mark and five minutes later Preston took the lead for the first time in the game from a Joe Garner goal. With it looking like the Millers would be going back to Yorkshire with nothing up popped Frecklington again in the last minute of the match to rescue a point.
Boxing Day 2002 was the last time Rotherham beat Preston on their home territory. Mark Robins and Richie Barker gave the Millers a two-nil win with both goals being scored in the second half.
The game in November at the New York Stadium was a win for the hosts. Richard Wood put the Millers in front eight minutes into the second half but a Ryan Ledson goal ten minutes from town saw Preston equalise. A Matt Crooks goal four minutes later saw Preston lose their unbeaten away record and the Millers get all three points.
The game at the New York Stadium in September ended one-one with Jordan Hugill opening the scoring for the hosts with a shot from distance and Liam Lindsay equalising on the stroke of half-time.
