Rotherham United were on fine form this afternoon at Roundwood where they started their pre-season friendly games scoring eleven goals with conceding.

Parkgate started well but it was the Millers who had the first chance with a ball from Dan Barlaser being headed away by Simpson before it had a chance to reach Joe Mattock which was followed by Kilburn getting to a ball from Chieo Ogbene before it reached Michael Smith. A corner for Parkgate on the ten minute mark was punched away by Viktor Johansson in the Rotherham goal winning a free-kick for a foul. Three minutes later the Millers were in front when a nice ball in from Barlaser was slotted home by Smith. And, if it hadn’t been for some good defending from Kilburn Josh Kayode might have made it two which he did a minute later after he was fouled in the area and put away the resulting spot-kick to give the visitors a two-nil lead. With twenty minutes gone Zac Walker, Parkgate’s ‘keeper, brought off a good save from Ogbene before more chances for the Millers ended when a ball in from Ogbene saw Richard Wood’s diving header hit the back of the net. Walker did well to save a Smith header before Jamie Lindsay saw a shot go inches past the post. Smith won a free-kick which Mattock took seeing his shot eventually find Ogbene who saw Walker bring off another good save.

Half-time – Parkgate 0 Rotherham 3

The Millers started the second forty-five with a complete new team including one trialist while Parkgate made three changes with Jack Birks, Jack Ellam and Freddie Tracey on for Brad Kilburn, Will Wraith and Sam Ackroyd. Rotherham had the first chance of the half when a ball in from Kieran Sadlier found Freddie Ladapo whose shot was saved by Zac Walker. Parkgate made another change fetching on Ollie Yates for Elliott Simpson. Eight minutes in and the Millers went four up with a Mikel Miller scoring and goal five followed two minutes later with Ladapo getting a tap-in at the far post. The hour mark saw two more changes for the hosts |Zak Khalifa and Alex Rippon replacing Brandon Bagley and Tom Staniland and five minutes later Mack Collinson and Jamie Knox came on for Will Wraith and Aji Bassi. On sixty-seven minutes Jacob Gratton saw his shot rebound with Ladapo there to sweep it into the net and it was seven-nil with Sadlier getting in on the act, although it could have been an own goal. Ben Wiles scored to make it eight with only a superb save from Walker stopping Sadlier getting number nine. And a couple of minutes later it was Walker again who did well to tip a cracking shot from Ladapo over the crossbar but a cross from Sadlier saw Freddie getting his hat-trick on seventy-six minutes. Ten minutes to go saw three changes for Rotherham with three of the academy lads coming on and five minutes later a nice cross from the Trialist found Matt Crooks who made it ten and an absolute cracker of a shot from Ben Wiles made it eleven on the stroke of full-time.
