Rotherham United Chairman Tony Stewart outlined Rob Scott‘s new job as Director of Football at the club.

Speaking to the Official Site Mr Stewart said, ‘His job definition is to seek out and find out what the manager wants which isn’t a lot different to what he’d doing now.

‘The reason why I made him Director of Football is to take on the every day responsibilities that sometimes the Manager gets pulled down with like staying at hotels, the quality of the ground and training ground and what needs to be done. So he can do that job while the Manager can focus on what it’s all about which is football.

‘I learned a lot from our last Manager, Matt Taylor, who wanted lots of things altering and I could see that was taking a lot of his time and I felt that should be managed by someone else.

‘And by making him a director it’s giving him more responsibilities while he’s still not moved from his job as recruitment, which for me, is very important. You know you can have the best Manager in the world but if the recruitment isn’t right then all you are doing is making it difficult for the Manager to perform – and we’ve witnessed that.

‘We know that Managers will leave and we need a foundation to know what the thoughts behind recruitment are. We know the fans will be looking at who comes in and who goes out and they are very critical and so am I. I don’t get players in to sell them, I get players in to make sure, on match day, they are playing and performing to the level that Rotherham like to play.

‘A lot of clubs have a Director of Football but what I’m saying is that the Board need a third eye and my job is to make the Manager and his assistant as comfortable as they are and focussing on one thing – football, football, football.

‘The biggest investment I’ve made in my life is Rotherham United. Would I do it again? Yes I would. Do I want to sell it? No. Do I take some stick? Yes and I’ve no problem with that. It doesn’t worry me. I’m blinkered in one thing and that’s to get success.’
