Rotherham United have acted very quickly in fetching in Steve Evans as first team manager after they announced that Leam Richardson had left only hours ago.

This will be Steve’s second time in charge of the Millers – the first being from 2012 to 2015 when he got the club promoted from League Two to the Championship. He left the New York Stadium on 28 September  citing that the two parties wanted to take the club in different directions.

From Rotherham Steve went on to manage Leeds United, Mansfield Town, Peterborough United, Gillingham and latterly Stevenage who he took from League Two to the top half of League One.

‘It was unexpected,’ Stevenage Chairman Phil Wallace told their Official Site today as he handed over the remaining of their season to ex-Miller Alex Revell.

Rotherham Chairman Tony Stewart said he is ‘delighted’ to welcome Steve Evans back to the New York Stadium telling the Official Site, ‘Leam and Rob’s departure was not something we took lightly, but following extensive conversations at Board level, it was unanimously agreed that a change of direction was needed to give us the best possible chance of bouncing back to the Sky Bet Championship at the first time of asking.

In Steve and Paul (Raynor, who has returned as the Assistant Manager) we have two individuals that understand the Rotherham United ‘DNA’ and know what it takes to build a successful team. They have a proven track record of success at a plethora of clubs, including our own.’

All at Vital Rotherham welcome Steve and Paul back to the Millers.
