Warne ‘Too Many Players Off Par’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne saw his side beaten away from home this afternoon for the first time since the end of November when they lost to Peterborough two-one at London Road.

Speaking after the game the Millers Boss told iFOLLOW that today’s match ‘wasn’t a good football game’.

‘I don’t think we pressed with enough intensity in the first twenty minutes or so,’ the Gaffer said, ‘and I expected the team to go out and perform to a higher level in the second half.’

So did we Warney and, to be fair, we were better in the second half but played nothing like we have done for the last few games and although we did have a few stabs towards goal and had more of the game I just don’t think we were ever on top of our game.

‘We found it hard to deal with their pace up front and they kept us pegged back quite a lot. We didn’t seem to have any guile today whether that was due to missing players I don’t know. We did make their ‘keeper make saves but we had too many players off par today which is disappointing.’

Personally I thought we gave Peterborough both goals and I think Iversen looked a little shaky after the first today but, saying that, he pulled off a couple of great saves in the second half to keep us in the game – and, as I always say, he is the last line of defence. Were Peterborough better than us? The score line obviously suggests so but, if I’d been a neutral I’d have to say that neither team impressed and Rotherham certainly didn’t live up to their reputation. Saying that, I never thought we wouldn’t get a draw right until the final whistle.

Now, onto Tuesday night and a game which sees Ipswich Town, who have taken over our top slot tonight, at the New York Stadium. So bring your voices, your scarves, your enthusiasm to the match on Tuesday and give the Millers the biggest cheer you can muster.
