Warne ‘It’s The Teams Day’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne spoke to Radio Sheffield after the derby win over Doncaster Rovers at the New York Stadium this afternoon saying that his side deserved the victory.

‘I thought our play in the first half was really good,’ the Millers Boss said, ‘and we scored two goals and had another disallowed. And we needed those two goals going down to ten men against a really good Donny side. It’s testament to the fitness of the lads to have loads of the ball, get bodies on the line and keep a clean sheet when we were down to ten for forty minutes. I’m really pleased.’

It was a pleasing performance. Scoring twice in the first half plus one being disallowed and probably a penalty which wasn’t given and then keeping Rovers out with a man less – you can’t ask for any more.

Asked about Michael Smith’s double, Warney said, ‘I expect nothing less from Smudge. He will get the headlines for the two goals but it’s not his day it’s the teams day. Everybody has done their bit. Viktor (Johansson) has kept a clean sheet and everyone put in a good shift, especially the three in midfield.’

Going on to talk about the (dreaded) transfer deadline day which is on Tuesday Warne said that he doesn’t see anyone paying the money the Chairman is demanding for Smith saying, ‘I’ve given the lads Monday and Tuesday off, so I’ve not got them under my feet for the deadline day, and hopefully this group will all stay and play a big part.’

With the International break now upon us the Millers next league game is again at home when Fleetwood Town will be in town which is on Saturday, 11th September when kick-off is 3pm (allegedly!)
