Warne ‘It Was A Mixed Performance’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne said his teams performance was ‘mixed’ after their one-nil win over Lincoln City at Sincil Bank last night.

Speaking to iFOLLOW the Millers Boss said he thought his team improved as the game went on.

‘I don’t think we played the conditions as well as they (Lincoln) did the first half,’ the Gaffer said, ‘and we did ride our luck a little bit but if you are going to win a football game then you are going to have to do that. Overall, I’m pretty pleased.’

It wasn’t the best game last night, to be honest. And I agree with Warney, Lincoln were the better side in the first half but the more we got into the game the more I thought we’d score, which we did early on in the second half and, perhaps, we should have had another one or two.

‘Lincoln have got a better home record than us,’ the Gaffer carried on, ‘and they do cause you problems. So to come here and get a win on a Friday night is great.’

As well as the win, one of the main things for me is that we got a clean sheet. It was ‘hairy’ at times with Richard Wood clearing off his own line (that magic hat slipping into his boots for a split second) and I did think we let Lincoln get some shots away, specially in the first half, that we should perhaps have stopped them doing, but, again Daniel Iversen made a couple of good saves. I’m always a bit worried about our defence but they were mostly on the ball last night.

As the Gaffer says we did ride our luck but I do think a couple of seasons ago we’d have let goals in and then gone to pieces.  We are learning and we came away with three points and happy – what more can you ask for?
