Rotherham United fought hard to get a point against promotion chasing Sheffield United yesterday – but what about those stats?
Well, firstly they say that our visitors had the majority of the possession – sixty-two per cent to thirty-eight. I can’t actually disagree with that, but, as we often say, it’s what you do with that possession that matters.
They also won more of the duels although, surprising to me, it was the Millers who won sixty per cent of the aerial duels being as we aren’t the biggest side. Of the eight corners Rotherham won three.
Our passing accuracy came out at sixty per cent and fifty per cent in our opponents half while our crossing accuracy was nil per cent – can you actually get nil per cent? – with the Blades’ crossing accuracy coming out at nineteen per cent. (Strange figures).
Attack wise the Millers had six shots on goal, four of those from inside the box, with three on target. Sheffield United had twelve shots on goal with two being on target (I’m sure Viktor made more than two saves?)
We conceded thirteen fouls with the Blades conceding six while the sides saw one yellow card each.
Both teams were trying to win this game and, yes, our neighbours had more of the ball, more shots but I’m not sure they played any better than we did (perhaps that’s just my rose tinted specs). I thought we defended very well yesterday in the dinner time kick-off and every player on that pitch deserves a round of applause – and a pint!
