Rotherham United got a home draw with Bournemouth yesterday and, in my opinion, played better than they have for a while and, sorry Cherries fans, but better than the the visitors who started the day in second place in the Championship.
The match stats tell us that the Millers had just thirty-five per cent possession, which I am a little puzzled about but our players were better at duels getting a fifty-seven per cent success and fifty-six per cent success in aerial duels.
We had seven corners to our opponents four while our passing accuracy in our opponents half comes out at fifty per cent. The Millers had thirteen shots at goal while Bournemouth had eleven while both had five shots at goal. We conceded twenty fouls and were given two yellow cards with Bournemouth giving away sixteen fouls and had three players booked.
Listening to the commentary it was mentioned that there was quite a bit in money between the two starting sides – around one hundred million pounds I believe was mentioned – and there was a lot more experience in our visitors with most of the players having played in the Premier League last season as well as being internationals for their respective countries.
I think there was clear space between Jamal Blackman and Dominic Solanke when both went down but while I was still wondering what our goalie was actually doing in that position the ref had given the spot-kick. Hey, that’s football. As a game of football I think it was a good exhibition and enjoyed it and, yes, of course I’d have like all three points but I can’t say I’m disappointed with the result.
Now we’ve got to go again and do the same on Tuesday night when Brentford are in town.
