Rotherham United won their first game of 2022 beating Bolton Wanderers two-one at the New York Stadium on New Year’s Day.
But how do the first stats of the year look?
Firstly the Millers had sixty per cent of possession and won sixty-eight per cent of the aerial duels as well as having eleven corners to Bolton’s three.
Our passing accuracy in our opponents half came out as fifty-eight per cent (I’m a little surprised at this as I felt we lost the ball quite a bit in this game) while Bolton’s was forty-seven per cent.
Of fifteen shots we had five were on target and eleven of the shots were from inside the box. Wanderers also have five shots on target from twelve with the majority of theirs inside the box too.
The Millers conceded sixteen fouls to our opponents nine with Bolton having three players booked and Rotherham two.
We managed to grind out a win yesterday which can only be positive and some of our crosses into the box, especially in the second half, could – and probably should – have brought more goals. One of the negatives is that our defence looked delicate – oh, OK, shaky – and have done for the last three or four games. There were a couple of players way off the mark yesterday and I was expecting a sub at half-time with another ten or so minutes later which didn’t happen.
But, we are back to top of the league and our next two games give us a rest from the league being in the Papa John’s Trophy on Tuesday and in the FA Cup next Saturday where I’m expecting the fringe players to make an appearance or two.
