Rotherham United got just their third point of 2024 yesterday in a goalless draw at the New York Stadium against fellow strugglers Huddersfield Town.
But about about those stats?
Possession wise it was even-steven, both sides having fifty per cent, while the Millers had forty-seven per cent success in both the duels and the aerial duels.
Of the seven corners our visitors had six while our passing accuracy in our opponents half was sixty-three per cent, Town’s eight per cent less.
In attack Rotherham had seven shots on goal, four of those inside the box, but just one on target (I’m sure their goalie made a couple of saves?) while our West Yorkshire neighbours had five on target from eighteen shots.
Our tackle success rate came out at sixty-nine per cent – I thought we tackled a lot more yesterday than of late – with Huddersfield’s being eighty per cent. We conceded thirteen fouls, one more than our opponents and there were two yellow cards each with our visitors going down to ten men just before the hour mark.
I see the Terriers Boss, Andre Breitenreiter, says that his side ‘controlled the game for ninety minutes’. Not so sure about that. And he certainly didn’t control Sorba Thomas who got two yellow cards in less than five minutes.
For me, the Millers played much better yesterday than of late – we ran, we went forward and I saw our Head Coach on the touchline telling our players to do that, we tackled, the players actually looked like they wanted to be in the team – all that’s been missing for some time. I’m not saying we played great and I’m certainly not saying there isn’t room for improvement, but I came away from watching Rotherham feeling much happier yesterday.
