Rotherham United got their first goalless draw of the season this afternoon at the John Smith’s Stadium when they a point from hosts Huddersfield Town.
After such a disappointing game and result on Easter Monday the Millers never stopped trying this afternoon and had thirteen shots at goal, four of which were on target – two hit the post and two brought off good saves the the home ‘keeper. Huddersfield also had four shots on target from nine shots.
The stats tell us that the Terriers had more possession – fifty-eight per cent to forty-two per cent – (got to say I’m surprised at those figures). Rotherham’s duels success rate comes out at fifty per cent and forty-nine per cent in the air while we had nine corners to Town’s six. Our passing accuracy in our opponents half was fifty-two per cent with the crossing accuracy coming out at twenty-four per cent. We conceded five fouls to Huddersfield’s twelve and there were no cards shown.
A point away from home is never something to be sniffed at though looking at the whole game we really, really should have won. Again we had chances, again we were denied a penalty (though, after the last one . . . .) and again we are saying should have, could have aren’t we.
What I do find a puzzle that in our last three games we have had chances and yet failed to score – that really has to be addressed.
But, it’s a point to take into our busy, busy week where we need to win our three home games. Let’s get behind them.
