Rotherham United Manager Matt Taylor spoke to Radio Sheffield after today’s three-one home win saying ‘it was one hell of a battle.’

‘We’ve been moving in the right direction for a little while,’ the Millers Boss said, ‘and we are feeling relatively good about ourselves right now.

‘QPR have a manager who knows how to get the best out of players (Ed Note – and a guitar apparently) but we stood up to the majority of it. We thought we were going to go into the squeaky bum territory when they got their goal which was a strange moment. Wes (Harding) went across to block the cross and their player is off the pitch. I was a bit disappointed with that.

‘We were aggressive with the changes we made and Conor (Washington) and Georgie (Kelly) combined and it was a reward for Hak’s (Hakeem Odoffin) endeavour all day. I want this team to keep being aggressive which is why we put Wash and Kelly on but it was also to stop QPR’s direct play at source. And even when they’ve sat there for seventy/eighty minutes and are probably feeling frustrated at not being on the pitch they come on and make a difference.

‘There was noise in the dressing room after the game which is always positive and I’m delighted because that team seems to be growing.’

Like all us fans, Matt was pleased for Jordan Hugill who scored his first goals for the club this afternoon saying, ‘his contribution is outstanding, he’s a fantastic platform for us and finally we got a good couple of deliveries into the box and he got on the end of the first one and would have been on the end of the second if he’d not been fouled. He was captain today so he can go home happy and content but we do need him to keep producing.’

Matt was pleased with the noise coming from the stands today saying, ‘on the back of Sunderland and the result at Swansea I think the fans can sense we are moving in the right direction and they are really getting behind us.’

Asked about what the squad was looking like for the next game with the injury situation – both Ollie Rathbone and Lee Peltier were missing today – and Matt replied, ‘Weak.’ although changed it later to ‘threadbare’.

Bailey Wright played the full ninety minutes today but was limping for quite a lot of the second half and has a calf injury.
