Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans said he is ‘delighted’ to be back with the Millers.

Speaking to the Official Site Steve said, ‘It’s almost happened on a number of occasions since I left but the planets have never aligned up. More recently it’s come together and it’s all happened very quickly but I’ve come home.’

Recently at Stevenage, Steve said, ‘It’s very much like what the Millers have a fantastic Chairman and Board. A smaller football club but a really good football club with ambitions to be in the Championship. I’ve left behind brilliant staff, really good players for League One and everything I can say about Stevenage gets a huge tick from me.

‘My relationship with Tony Stewart is well known in football. I’ve kept in touch with him and within days of me leaving the football club we went to dinner, he was at my daughters wedding a couple of years ago so when I got the opportunity to sit in front of the Chairman a couple of days ago and speak to him about the real opportunity of coming back it was so exciting. I always hoped it would happen.

‘The reason the move got expedited was that the Chairman and Board wanted me to have a full assessment of the playing staff, of the infrastructure, what we needed and to present my plans to the Board a few days after the completion of the season. We will be competing for promotion next season, there is no doubt about that. But there is no point in talking about it and not delivering it so I have an objective. After the last game I’m going to put in place a squad, a lot of who will still be here, and be playing a big part when we are winning football matches.

‘We have got some really good players. They’ve been low on confidence and from our point of view we have to instil that confidence in the next couple of weeks, reminding players of how good they are and we will then look and assess who should go forward.

‘I will try and win some football matches not only for the Chairman, Richard (Stewart) and the Board but for the supporters. When I talk about the supporters of Rotherham United, at every club I’ve managed, I say ‘once a Millers, always a Miller’ and I think that’s in my heart.’

Since he was last with the Millers Steve says he’s learned a lot. ‘I’ve still got that passion to win football matches, to contest decisions but I try to do it in a more controlled fashion but there are things that are ingrained in me.

‘The supporters will notice when they walk into the ground tomorrow that I’m back on the bench at the home end. When we score goals I want to be celebrating like I’ve done before with our fans. I’ve never felt short of applauding supporters here because they are tremendous people and we are going to need their help tomorrow and next season.’
