Rotherham United dug deep yesterday in their one-all draw at home to Watford but what do those stats say?
Possession wise Watford win that one with sixty-six per cent but, in my eyes, I don’t think they looked that much better than us – perhaps a bit quicker in certain positions, a bit more worldly wise in midfield maybe.
The Millers successful duel rates came out at forty-seven per cent with thirty-two per cent success in the air – not surprising as we aren’t the biggest side out there are we.
Attack wise Rotherham had nine shots at goal of which three were on target with five of those shots coming from outside the box. Watford had two on target from twelve shots although they had double the number of corners with six. Our passing accuracy in our opponents half was forty-eight per cent, crossing accuracy coming out as seventeen per cent.
Our tackle success rate was fifty-three per cent and discipline wise we committed twelve fouls, one more than our visitors and got three of the five yellow cards dished out – though, were any of them really bookings?
I actually thought the first half of the game was very good yesterday, petered out for quite a lot of the second half but we stuck to a plan and got something out of the game. I see we are still playing the ‘backs to the walls’ leaving nobody up front, which is how Paul Warne wants to play and he is the manager after all, but twice I saw yesterday that if we’d had one player up front who could run (Bramall, Rathbone?) then we could well have been away with the ball, might not have scored but it would have got it away from the danger area. Saying that I never really felt like I was on tenterhooks yesterday.
