Rotherham United gave a debut to defender Joel Ekstrand on Saturday at the City of Cardiff Stadium where he played for just under seventy minutes.

Speaking after the game Millers Manager Paul Warne told Radio Sheffield, ‘It was his first first-team game for about six months so I always knew he was going to be rusty.

‘Ideally I’d play him in a three but you can tell that Joel is comfortable on the ball.

‘He’d been ill for a few weeks but trained with us for a couple of weeks. He started to tire after an hour so I didn’t want to risk him getting an injury so I put Aimen (Belaid) on. I could have started him but that’s another injury risk and I didn’t want him out again.’

Twenty-eight year old Joel joined the Millers at the start of the month on a deal until the end of the season.

I suppose after making your debut in a five-nil defeat things can only get better!
