Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott gave trialist, Jeff Smith a run out in the game at Grimsby this afternoon.

Thirty-one year old defender/midfielder, Smith, came through the Youth ranks with Hartlepool and played a few games for the first team before moving to Barrow and Bishop Auckland. In 2001 he signed for then Championship side Bolton Wanderers but failed to get into the first team and went out to various clubs on loan before joining Port Vale in 2004. Three years later he moved to Carlisle and then onto Darlington. Due to a ‘breach of club discipline’ he left Darlington and signed for Belgian side Royal Olympic Club de Charleroi-Marchienne last year.

After playing the second half of today’s game, Andy Scott says that he wants to see more of Smith and will join the squad for their pre-season trip to Portugal next week.
