Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott was happy after his side(s) beat Grimsby Town in the first of the pre-season friendlies this weekend.

Speaking after the three-one win, Scott told MillersPlayer, ‘The majority of the performance was very good and the people who were here have seen that we can play some good stuff.

‘There were a couple of areas where we started to take liberties but that just showed the confidence they had on the ball. We moved the ball quite well although we still got a bit sloppy in defence. But, in fairness, we changed the side around and Jason Taylor getting injured didn`t really help us. We put three youth team players on at the end and young Alec did very well up front, and it`s a good experience for them.

‘I thought we played extremely well in the first half and didn`t look under too much pressure and the only areas that really caused us problems was the set pieces, but we`ve not worked on them. I was disappointed with the goal they scored, I don`t think they should be scoring from there. But, on the whole, we`ve shown that we`ve got good players and a good squad as well who have bundles of energy.

‘The second half was a bit stop start with the substitutions and injuries and I didn`t think the referee was too great in making decisions and there could have been a few more injuries. It was a competitive game on a good pitch and it was a good start for us in front of a pleasing crowd.

‘Chris Holroyd`s finish was very good (for the third goal) and I thought Lewis Grabban and Alfie worked well together. Luke Foster did well in the role he played, he kept the ball moving and just kept tidying things up and Mark Bradley did well at centre-half.

‘Some had forty-five minutes and some had more like Bradders and Tom Newey played ninety minutes today but that was due to the numbers really and they are more than capable of doing that . But, there`s a few things we are looking at and today was just the start of it but I was pleased with it.`
