Rotherham United’s caretaker boss, Steve Thornber says he didn’t get to see the start of the reserve game against Lincoln yesterday because he was with the first team. Lincoln scored two goals in the first half with Mickey Cummins getting a consolation for the Millers later in the game.

Speaking to MillersWorld, Steve Thornber said, ‘When I got here we were two down! I saw the last twenty minutes of the first half and couldn’t see how we were two down. In the second half I thought we pressed and pressed but the final ball let us down.’

Yesterday’s team was made up of experience, players coming back from injury and youth players and Thornber said, ‘It’s good for the youngsters to come in and play with the experienced players. Mitchell Austin had a couple of good chances, one he should have scored when he was one-on-one with the ‘keeper. He needs to switch on a little bit more when we haven’t got the ball but when he’s in his stride he looks good.

Craig Gladwin shows good movement but I think both him and Connor Hiley, who’s been scoring for the Youth team, need to get a bit stronger.’

Speaking about the players coming back from injury, Thornber said, ‘Tom Pope looks a bit rusty but he’s had another sixty minutes under his belt which is better than training. He’s in contention for the game on Saturday and if picked I would have thought he’d be there or there abouts.

Mickey Cummins came through the game well and there was no reaction to his shoulder. In the second half we asked him to come forward more which he did. He’ll be in contention on Saturday too.

Paul Warne was feeling a bit sluggish and asked to play the full game and he looked quite lively.’
