Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott had praise for a few of his players today, not least for Lewis Grabban’s thirty yard strike for the goal.

‘A few of the lads on the bench were saying ‘no’ as he was about to hit it!’ Scott told Radio Sheffield after the one-one draw with Shrewsbury. ‘But Lewis is confident and it was a goal worthy of winning the game. Unfortunately, it didn’t do that but it was a fantastic finish.

‘Jon Harley was excellent today and showed his composure on the ball and his quality. He went on a mazy run and how he didn’t get a foul is beyond me. Why he would go down going into the box when he’s outside the box is a mystery. But he did very well.

‘We had some players today who did it for an hour or fifty minutes and then fell away and others who weren’t quite firing on all cylinders. But they worked hard.’

Asked about bringing Tom Newey off the bench to play on the left side of midfield today, Scott said, ‘Marshy (Marcus Marshall) was off the pace today and we weren’t getting any end product and Lionel Ainsworth was causing us problems. So, we thought we could stop Ainsworth and the quality of Tom and Jon (Harley) could get round him and we’d be able to get a bit more going forward. It’s disappointing because we know what Marshy can do but it didn’t happen for him today. If we’d had him firing as much as Evo (Gareth Evans) was on the other side we’d probably have gone on to win the game. But he’s still a young lad and it’s a learning curve for him.

‘We’ve got a few knocks. Tongey has got a few stitches in his head, Raynes got a whack and Mulls got a whack so we will have to patch them up and see if they recover from today in time for the Morecambe game.’
