Rotherham United Manager, Andy Scott thought today’s one-all draw with Shrewsbury Town at Don Valley was a fair result.
Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the game, Scott said, ‘We played very well first half but couldn’t hold out after going in front. I think there were a few nerves in the second half and we stopped doing a few things that we were doing n the first half. The first forty-five was excellent but we should have done more with the ball in the second half.
‘Shrewsbury are a decent side and they are up there for a reason but I thought we created a lot more chances than they did but it was a fair result in the end.
‘Of course we want to win games but this was always going to be a tough one. We aren’t getting the breaks in the box when it’s falling to them rather than us but we responded well. I thought there were some good performances today. We were on the front foot, stopping them and winning a lot more headers than we have done. If they were getting it to feet our midfield players were able to win it from the front because we had a better line and if balls were bouncing we were stepping forward and stepping in and clearing it or getting it to one of our players. It was a much better performance from the back four and they worked hard and you can’t fault them for that. We worked hard and our shape was a lot better and we restricted them to a few chances.
‘Gareth Evans and Grabbs (Lewis Grabban) caused them problems and Schoey (Danny Schofield) got on the ball a lot more than he has done but we didn’t manage to do it for the whole ninety minutes. Playing Schoey just off of Grabbs worked really well and he was causing a lot of problems and we had the potential to slide him in and we got a lot of ball to him which was good. We’ll keep doing the right things.
‘Before the game we said we want to get the crowd on the edge of their seats with attempts at goal and crosses into the box and cause excitement. And we want to enjoy playing and watching it and we want other people to enjoy watching it.
‘It’s a point. It’s a start and we can go to Morecambe and build on that performance.’
