Rotherham United manager, Mark Robins, told midfielder Ian Ross that he could not guarantee him a spot in the first team when he came on loan from Sheffield United.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield, Robins said, ‘I do feel for the lad – it must be difficult coming to a club and not getting games. He has been on the bench just the once. I actually did envisage him coming into the team at this time of the year. We’ve got a lot of games coming up over the Christmas period and he may well get a chance.

‘Will we sign him in January? I wouldn’t like to say as we’ve not seen him play. I have spoken to his agent and I know that clubs will be free to come in for him in January.

‘He just has to keep his head down and keep working away – as do the other players.

‘After all, this isn’t about individuals, it’s about a group of players.’
