Rotherham United midfielder Richie Towell became an instant hit with the Millers fans yesterday after scoring the winning goal in the last minute of his home debut game.

Joining in the last minutes of transfer deadline day, Richie is on a season long loan from Brighton and Hove Albion and came off the subs bench for the injured Shaun Cummings in the first half of the game against Bury, when the game was one-one.

Rotherham scored again in the second half only for the Shakers to equalise for a second time but with eighty-nine minutes on the clock the twenty-six year old scored the winner and was instantly mobbed by the rest of his team mates.

Speaking to iFOLLOW after the three-two in, Richie said, ‘It was brilliant.

‘I thought we played some lovely football and deserved the win.

‘I think we should have killed the game off a lot earlier but when it fell to me I knew it was straight in as soon as it left my boot.

‘I said when I signed for Rotherham I wanted to score goals and help the team push up the table.

‘We want to play nice football but the most important thing is that we win.’
