Rotherham United’s Reserve Team Manager, Steve Thornber told MillersPlayer that he was pleased with the attacking play in the 5-4 win over Scunthorpe on Wednesday.

‘I thought we did ever so well attacking,’ Steve said, ‘but I thought we were naive in defence.

‘When we went 4-2 up I think we took our foot off the gas but, to be fair, they’ve done very well and it could easily have been 15-8!

‘There’s a lot of players in the team at the moment who can pass the ball but I thought Mickey Cummins’ passing today was excellent. And, Liam (Darville), from Leeds has done well getting forward as has Jamie (Green) on the other side and he created one of the goals.

‘We’ve come through it without any fresh injuries, although we did take MJ (Marc Joseph) off because he was feeling his thigh a little bit but it was just a precaution. Nick Fenton has come through it OK but he’s disappointed – as a defender you don’t want to be involved in 5-4 games!

‘Stephen Brogan could have had four or five goals today and it’s another game under his belt and he’s getting his fitness back.’

Tom Pope scored a hat trick in the game and Thornber said he could have had more. ‘He did well and his finishes were excellent and it will be a confidence booster for him.

‘It was an entertaining game which we can take a lot of positives from.’

The goal scorers for the Millers were Tom Pope (3), Drewe Broughton and Kevin Ellison.
