RUFC – Moore on his selection headache

Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore, told MillersPlayer that it’s good that he’s got something to think about this weekend regarding his team selection.

‘The side’s been the same for most of the season but we left five out on Wednesday, just really to have a look at the other players. I haven’t seen enough of Mark Bradley but he’s come in and given us a right headache. He scored a goal and his passing was magnificent in the second half so he’s really knocking on the door for one of those two places and Jason Taylor or Danny Harrison could have a little problem.

‘Another pleasing thing was Greeny (Jamie Green). He’s not played all season and he was fantastic, got involved and made one of the goals and he got forward. I think he’s got the bit between his teeth now and Tom Newey will have a problem there, which he hasn’t had.

‘Young Jamie (Annerson) in goal did nothing wrong. He made three excellent saves, comes in for crosses, kicks the ball a mile, gets the back four in a fine line and when it comes over the top he’s out and clearing it, a bit Grobbelaar like. And Woggy (Andy Warrington) sat and watched that so it’s good for him to know that if he’s not quite on the button, Jamie’s in. Though, to be fair to Woggy, he’s a model pro anyway and his standard is so high. And, I know, if Woggys not quite right I can trust Jamie to come in and do the business for us.’

Asked about Ryan Cresswell, Moore said that the decision is up to him and he won’t force him to play if he’s still grieving. ‘People handle grief in different ways and, really, his Granddad was his dad and it’s a big loss for him. It’s a sad thing for him and he will tell us when he’s ready. If he comes to me tomorrow morning and says he wants to play then it gives me another headache because the two centre-backs have done well.’

The players all wore black armbands last Saturday at Bury in memory of Ryan’s granddad and Moore said that it was Tom Newey’s idea to do that. ‘It was to show a bit of respect because his granddad was a mad Rotherham supporter and I’m sure Cressy will have appreciated that.’
