Rotherham United Manager, Ronnie Moore is thrilled that the club have finally took the first step to moving back into Rotherham.

‘It’s been a long time coming,’ Moore told MillersPlayer, ‘but it’s fantastic and it’s going to be a bright future for Rotherham United. It’s great that it’s going to be a home, because, no disrespect to Don Valley but it’s not a football stadium. There’s to be a brand new training ground as well.

‘The Chariman is so enthusiastic and he’s been working his socks off behind the scenes and the Council have been magnificent as well.’

Talking about Don Valley, Moore said, ‘There’s no connection with the fans at the moment and it’s difficult playing in Sheffield and training in Doncaster. The biggest connection we’ve had was on Tuesday night and I felt that was like the good old days. Those seventeen hundred people at Saltergate were absolutely fantastic.

‘When I was here before I used to like the banter with the fans but at Don Valley there’s nowhere we can go and meet them. By five past five the stadium is empty and they’ve all gone home.

‘Being back in Rotherham will help with player recruitment as well. Trying to get players in to play at Don Valley has been difficult and we’ve probably had to pay over the odds on their wages to get them to come here.’

It’s hoped that the work on the new stadium could start as early as August and the Millers hopefully will be playing their brand new state of the art stadium within two years.
