Rotherham United winger, Nicky Law says that the pitch at Don Valley is one of the worst he’s ever played on.

Speaking to Dom Howson of The Star, the former Sheffield United player said, ‘The pitch is boggy and it drains your energy. Because there is no grass on it, it is hard to keep your footing.

‘But, there is nothing we can do about it because we are just tenants there. The pitch is out of our control and we can’t use that as an excuse.

‘It’s the same for both teams and we just have to get on with it.’

The Millers have won just one of their last four games at Don Valley, drawing two and losing one. As Nicky Law says, it is the same for both sides but one of the sides only has to play on it once a season. Don Valley is, like it or not, our ‘home’ at the moment and I really do think, because of the pitch, (and the distance the crowd is from the pitch), we are losing our home advantage. This year (2010) we’ve got just eight points from eighteen at Don Valley, which, in my mind, isn’t promotion form.

The pitch was in a dreadful state on Monday night but, we have to remember, the game might not have gone on at all if it hadn’t been for the fans who took up the call and went with their shovels to help clear the ground of snow.
