Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans thought there were a lot of pluses to take out of this afternoon`s defeat away at Middlesbrough.

Speaking after the two-nil loss the Millers Boss told Radio Sheffield, ‘I thought, in large parts, the performance was good. I thought we had a fantastic shape about the team and some good energy levels.

‘There were boos going round the stadium just before half-time when they (Middlesbrough) had run out of ideas and the first two or three passes from Middlesbrough in the second half go out for goal-kicks.

‘For their first goal a midfield player gives the ball away in a cheap area and Lee Tomlin runs at our back four. One of our centre-backs slips over and Tomlin puts it in the corner. We re-grouped, settled down and got in some good areas. Then they break again and Tomlin gets a ricochet which goes in his favour and slips Bamford in and he scores. For the penalty I know Richard Wood would be tired because there`s a difference between League One and the Championship.

‘Our productivity in keeping the ball and what we`ve done in the final third wasn`t good enough today. But I thought we did well and with seven minutes to go Jordan Bowery has a big, big chance to make it two-one.

‘But Middlesbrough are a quality side and we can`t say anything else.`

I think the Millers frustrated ‘Boro this afternoon. And the longer they went without scoring the more nervous both the players and the fans were becoming. It`s just a pity that they scored when they did because then, being on the back-foot, they got more and more into the game. If one of the shots we had had gone in to make it two-one then I think the ‘Boro players would have been living on their nerves again and, well, you never know what might have happened.
