Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans was very emotional after the win this evening against Reading that meant the Millers would be playing Championship football again next season while sending Millwall and Wigan to join Blackpool in League One next season.

‘We are very proud` he told Radio Sheffield after the two-one win. ‘We work for a man who is charismatic, we play for the supporters who are like me, and I’ve no fingernails left, but when you play with the desire and a fighting spirit that all the players and the staff and directors and supporters have they can take our points but what will they do to us tomorrow with all these fans on the pitch?

‘They know what they’ve done to us but we have to respect that decision but it was a heart ache for us. And whoever they are we are in the Championship for another year and they won`t like it. But we`ll just keep going.

‘In terms of importance of the game this is my best ever result as a manager. The pressure has been intense since they took our points. There`s not been a lot of sleep. There`s been heartache and all the emotions we go through and did I shed tears when the points came off? Yes I did. But I had to stand strong for the dressing room.

‘And the players were magnificent and rightly they`ll get the plaudits. I thought they were stunning because Reading had some good players out there tonight. And there was a Millwall player who said we hadn’t got the bottle but I’ve got twelve bottles of finest champagne and we`ll be drinking them for about a week!

‘I got lots wrong in the early part of the season. From Christmas I’ve got it right. The bottom line is I want to be here. I asked the supporters to turn up tonight and make a noise and I`ll be first in the queue to buy the DVD.`
