Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne described Saturday’s game away at the Memorial Stadium against Bristol Rovers as ‘ugly’.

Saying the Millers defeat was hugely disappointing the Millers Gaffer told Radio Sheffield, ‘It was a game for ugly defending but I do think we had enough chances to get something from it.

‘The conditions were poor with it being a soft pitch with divots everywhere. At half-time I told the lads not to do backward passes to our ‘keeper because the ball was bobbling.

‘But that isn’t an excuse for us losing because it was the same for both teams although it did make it a more difficult game than we were expecting.

‘In the last three games we’ve scored so there’s not much wrong going forward but I’m not naive enough to think that we are defensively solid. I thought we were pretty comfortable at one-nil but one error cost us.

‘For their first goal Marek (Rodak) did well and punched the ball away but it got lifted back into the box. Marek told Michael (Ihiekwe) to put the ball away and he decided not to and they score.

‘I’ll have to pick the defenders up next week but also let them know that defending is an art.

‘We should have had a penalty when Bally (David Ball) had his shirt pulled off but the referee decided not to give it.’

Asked about the positives, Warney said, ‘The lads played well and we were set up to tactically deal with Bristol Rovers but individual errors cost us.’

Darren Potter limped off early in the first half with Warney saying, ‘He’s got a sore Achilles and I think he will be a doubt for Blackpool.’
