Rotherham United Head Coach Leam Richardson was obviously disappointed after yesterdays loss away at Queens Park Rangers.

For the second time this week he’d seen his team take an early lead and not being able to capitalise on it or stop the opposition scoring.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield after the two-one defeat, Richardson said, ‘It was disappointing to lose today. We wanted to build on the performances we’ve had and turn them into results. We’ve got a horrible habit at the minute where we go ahead in games, compete very well but the fine margins tip the other way.

‘The lads are giving everything. The first half was very even but they (QPR) finished the game very strong. It’s our levels, our distance. (Ed Note – I hate to say this but could this be a case of too many ‘old’ legs in the same position?) We need to stay consistent.

‘We could have gone two-nil up today and really taken the game to them but we’re in the habit of taking two or three steps back instead of two or three steps forward. And we’ve spoken about this at length.

‘But it’s credit to Queens Park Rangers for the victory. We want to make a good fist of it but we’re falling short in certain areas.

‘But we’ll keep going. We certainly won’t shirk away from it. It would be easy to roll over and lose four or five-nil but there’s still the hunger and belief to compete.’

Any new injuries? ‘Clu (Sam Clucas) limped in, Cam (Humphreys) had to come off with his Achilles. Since I came in in December we’ve been fixing and mending with levels of availability and we need to address that and move forward.’

I don’t think it’s a case of our players don’t try. We’ve set off with great pace the last few games but just can’t sustain it. It was noticeable yesterday that we only had eight on the bench. I’m a believer in fetching your own youngsters on and surely, if that was to be the case, this is the time to do it. Get them on the bench and give them fifteen minutes or so and get them ready for next season.
