Ron’s arrival at Millmoor didn’t come soon enough for him to help the team to avoid relegation to Division Four but he did hit the only goal of the game as champions Bolton Wanderers were beaten at Millmoor in the run in.
He proved to be a consistent scorer the following season when he formed a good partnership with Trevor Phillips and he was the team’s leading scorer with his partner two goals adrift. Ron was on the target in successive games on Boxing Day 1974 and the next league outing on January 11th before he moved to Grimsby Town.
On leaving English football Ron played for Columbus Magic in the United States and after they folded he moved into coaching.
He became a member of the USA national staffing coaching board but unfortunately he died of a heart aneurysm in July 1997 at the comparatively young age of 48.
