SC Wiener Neustad 0 Rotherham United 1

Rotherham United ended their weeks training with a win over Austrian First League side Wiener Neustad this afternoon at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt.

The Millers got off to the best start with just two minutes on the clock when a long throw from Will Vaulks found Michael Smith who put the ball in the net before the striker was brought into use at the other end when he cleared from a home corner. After a foul on Jon Taylor up stepped Joe Newell to take the resulting free-kick but before the ball reached him Smith was judged to have fouled a home player before Richard Wood had to be at his best to head clear. A shot from Clark Robertson was blocked before the host ‘keeper saved from Taylor. One-nil to the visitors at half-time.

David Ball replaced Kyle Vassell at the start of the second half with both Joe Newell and Will Vaulks having shots that went behind. Laurence Bilboe takes the place of Lewis Price in goal with Reece McGinley coming on for Clark Robertson. Anthony Forde was denied by the hosts ‘keeper before a cross from Joe Mattock found McGinley but his shot went wide of the post. Akeem Hinds and Dominic Ball came on for Richard Wood and Josh Kayode. Semi Ajayi did well to block a shot and at the other end a Forde free-kick was tipped round the post.
