Rotherham United are travelling to Hungary later today for a week in a training camp and to play a friendly against an Hungarian team.

Speaking after the eleven-nil win over Parkgate on Saturday at Roundwood, Millers Manager Paul Warne told IFollow that he really enjoyed the history of the game, which for some time has been Rotherham’s first friendly game of pre-season, and thinks that should continue. ‘I have nothing but respect for the Parkgate club and what they are trying to do.’

The Millers players came through the game injury free, always a bonus, and now onto Budapest where Warne said that training would ‘step up’ saying, ‘there is a two and a half kilometer hill run which the lads will enjoy’ but he also said that there would be some fun as well because, ‘we all need a reason to smile’.

The Boss ended by saying, ‘Hopefully we will come back next weekend with a fully fit group and hopefully a couple of additions.’

First Team/Development Coach Matt Hamshaw said that with everything that’s going on, Covid19, it’s been difficult to organise the trip and praised the Chairman who has helped the camp go ahead.

‘It’s a crucial part of our programme,’ Hammy said, ‘and we are looking forward to it. We’ve got a game over there either Tuesday or Wednesday and we will be getting three to four sessions in every day which is a big plus and it’s an opportunity for us to have a chat with the lads, get to know them a little better and them to get to know us a little better.’

Asked about what’s happening on the transfer front, the Rotherham born coach said, ‘People will think it’s quite quiet and people will there there’s not a lot happening but, trust me, there is a lot happening.’

Caz, the Hungary trip is odd given that government’s recent homophobic legislation. They view taking the knee as “provocative.” A poor decision by RUFC and on past performance I expect an outbreak of Covid as Hungary does not support mask wearing etc. Whole thing is daft: who decides these things at RUFC?

Apparently, Kevin, it’s taken a lot of organising. I’ll be honest I’m surprised they’ve gone – not just Hungary but anywhere. Will they take the knee in a friendly?
