Rotherham United’s Assistant Manager Richie Barker has echoed his Manager’s words by saying that they are trying their hardest to get players in before tomorrow’s window shuts.

‘We have had a couple of conversations this week,’ Barker told the Official Site, ‘but there are also other clubs trying to do business too.’

If today’s rumours are anything to go by Scunthorpe midfielder Duane Holmes is interesting the Millers, as well as Derby County. This is not the first time we’ve heard the Millers and Holmes mentioned in the same breath with the rumours starting not long after our Wembley win in May.

There’s no doubting that we need a midfielder and the American born twenty-three year old, who was the Iron’s Player of the Season last year, would fit the bill.

But does that mean we’ve given up hope on last season’s loanee Richie Towell? I’d heard on the grapevine – well various grapevines actually – that a deal was almost sorted for the Brighton and Hove Albion player. Maybe those grapevines are drooping a bit in this weather.

I don’t doubt that the club will be trying their best to fetch someone in right up until the deadline tomorrow and it would be great if we could fetch people in but it wouldn’t surprise me if we aren’t looking towards a couple of loans, which window closes at the end of the month. Maybe young players from Premier League sides who we can help at the same time as they are helping us.
