How Are Our Loaned In Players Going?

Rotherham United have a number of players on loan at the club at the moment – but how are they getting on?

Defender Grant Hall arrived on a season long loan in the summer and, so far, has made twenty-one appearances for the Millers, his first coming in the first game of the season at home to Swansea City. The thirty-one year old has suffered with hamstring injuries since arriving at the New York Stadium and after he limped off just after half-time in our win over Sunderland last month it’s thought his season could be over.

Another defender, Leo Hjelde joined in the January transfer window on loan until the end of the season from Leeds United. He impressed on his debut in our four-nil win over Blackburn Rovers at home and despite having an ankle injury has been involved in six more games.  This week he was called up to the Norway U21 side.

Conor Coventry arrived at the New York Stadium on 26th January from West Ham United making his Millers debut nine days later in the goalless draw against Sheffield United. The midfielder has played in every game since his only yellow card coming in our home win over Sunderland.

A few days earlier than Conor the Millers signed Tariqe Fosu on loan from another Premier League club, Brentford. After playing the beginning of the season with Stoke City Tariqe was ‘ready to go’ and started the game at Watford the day after signing. He has also played in every game since and has impressed the Rotherham fans with some of his ball skills.

Australian defender Bailey Wright began the season with an International Cap and goal in a friendly with Jordan before playing a number of games for his parent club Sunderland. He came to Rotherham on the final day of the January window making his debut, from the bench, in our South Yorkshire derby game at home to Sheffield United. Unfortunately that debut lasted just four minutes as he was knocked-out and had to be replaced. Since then he’s played in just four more games but has been called up for the Australian squad for their ‘Welcome Home’ series against Ecuador.

The Millers went all out to bring in Domingos Quina and went to the airport to sign him on his arrival back from Spain where he’d been playing for Spanish La Liga side Elche. He’s on loan from Watford the attacking midfielder has managed less than a quarter of an hour in a Rotherham shirt when he came off the bench in our goalless draw at Blackpool before a knee injury has ruled him out since.

I think all us Rotherham fans had great hopes with the loan signings we’ve brought in but injuries have taken their toll and it’s not looking promising that we will see a couple of them again much before the end of the season.
