Rotherham United entertain West Bromwich Albion for the first of the two New York Stadium pre-season friendlies.
The Millers and Baggies have met thirteen times in all competitions in the past – eight times in the league, twice in the League Cup and three times in the FA Cup.
Just before Christmas last year saw Albion last at the New York Stadium when a hat-trick from Dwight Gayle and a Harvey Barnes goal gave the visitors a four-nil win.
The last time Rotherham beat the Baggies on Rotherham soil was at Millmoor in Division One in November 2001. A first half goal from Chris Swailes saw the score doubled in the second half by Alan Lee with Darren Moore getting a consolation for the visitors.
An October 2003 game at Millmoor was a three-nil win for the visitors. An own goal from Shaun Barker gave them the lead on thirty-nine minutes and two second half goals from Rob Hulse gave the Baggies all three points.
The first league game at Millmoor between the two was in May 1993and was a two-nil win for West Brom.
Last season the Baggies finished fourth in the Championship with eighty points seeing them get into the play-offs against Aston Villa. Despite a sixteenth minute goal from Dwight Gayle putting Albion in front in the first game at Villa Park two goals from the hosts, and Gayle getting a second yellow saw West Brom going into the second leg two-one down. The game at the Hawthorns a few days later saw a header from Craig Dawson levelled the score at two-all. Despite Chris Brunt seeing a second yellow ten minutes from time the Baggies managed to keep the one-nil lead throughout extra time but lost four-three in the penalty shoot-out.
Despite being in a good position in March Manager Darren Moore was sacked which brought much criticism from both football fans and the media. Caretaker Manager James Shan took the team to the play-offs but was replaced in June with Slaven Bilic. And it will be a quick return for Semi Ajayi who left the New York Stadium last week to join West Brom.
