Rotherham United welcome South Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley to the New York Stadium for their second visit in the league here.
The last time the pair met in Rotherham was in January 2017, again in the Championship, when an Adam Armstrong goal twenty minutes from time gave the visitors all three points.
The last time the Millers beat Barnsley on home soil was at Millmoor in 1982 with John Seasman’s goal being enough to win the game for the hosts.
Barnsley actually helped the Millers open the New York Stadium on 21st July 2012 with the visitors nearly upsetting the apple cart when they opened the scoring on thirty-six minutes with the first goal ever at the NYS scored by Jacob Mellis – a cracker from some twenty yards out. But a minute later the hosts were on equal terms after a prod from former Barnsley player Daniel Nardiello found David Noble and the midfielder tucked the ball home to make it one-one. On the stroke of half-time another Barnsley old boy Kayode Odejayi gave the Millers the lead when he rounded the ‘keeper to slot the ball home which gave Rotherham their first win at their new home.
The Millers and Tykes have met fifty-two times in the league with Barnsley winning nineteen to Rotherham’s seventeen.
