Rotherham United make the long trek to Fratton Park for their next League One encounter to take on Portsmouth.
Last time out that the pair met on Portsmouth soil was in November 2019 which saw the hosts go ahead in the first minute thanks to a Ronan Curtis goal. A Dan Barlaser free-kick on fifteen minutes saw ‘keeper Craig MacGillivray save but only as far as Freddie Ladapo who made it one-all. John Marquis put the hosts back in front eight minutes before half-time from close-range but just after the hour mark Carlton Morris won the Millers a penalty which Ladapo equalised with. But just four minutes later Ben Close gave Pompey all three points to extend their unbeaten run to seven games.
Two seasons before it was a lunchtime kick-off for TV at Fratton Park when Jon Taylor’s first goal of the season on the thirty-sixth minute sent the travelling Millers fans home happy with three points.
April 2003 was the last time the pair met at Portsmouth before that when an eleven minutes penalty, after a push on Svetoslav Todorov from Guy Branston , was duly put away by Paul Merson with Branston himself making amends five minutes later by equalising after a long throw from Shaun Barker. On the twenty-second minute Todorov himself put Pompey back in front only for Chris Swailes climb highest to a Millers corner to equalise again just before the half-hour mark. In the final minute of the half Bulgarian Todorov bungled the ball over the line from a Vincent Pericard cross which saw Portsmouth win the Division One title.
There was a goalless draw at Fratton Park in 2002 with Kevin Harper seeing red for the hosts with three minutes to go but December 1977 saw Rotherham and Portsmouth get a point a-piece in a three all draw. Maitland Pollock scored twice for the home side with David Kemp getting the other with two from Dave Gwyther and one from Richard Finney for the visitors.
The game at the New York Stadium earlier this season was a four-one win for the Millers. Michael Smith opened the scoring for the hosts with Marcus Harness equalising for Pompey four minutes into the second half. A further goal from Smith and one each from Richard Woods and Ben Wiles gave Rotherham all three points.
