Rotherham United are on their travels this evening when they go South to take on Portsmouth.

The Millers start the game in third place but could move into second if they win this game because of a better goal difference than MK Dons. Portsmouth are twenty points worse off than Rotherham in eleventh place in League One.

Pompey lost away to Cheltenham Town at the weekend with their last home game being a goalless draw with Wycombe Wanderers, the last win at Fratton Park coming at the beginning of March when the game against Accrington Stanley was a four-nil win.

A loss at home on Saturday, to Charlton Athletic, overshadowed Rotherham’s Papa John Trophy Final win the weekend before. The Millers last away game was a goalless draw at Wycombe while their last away win came at the end of February at Plymouth.

Forward Aiden O’Brien told Portsmouth Official Site that the team should only be targeting three points at home saying, ‘We’ve got to go out there and win games. We’ve got to  apply ourselves properly from the very start and instead of worrying about they are going to do we have to make sure we put pressure on them. It is going to be a hard game and we are going to have to be at our best.’

Former Millers George Hirst and Clark Robertson will probably get a start but injuries to Kieron Freeman and Reeco Hackett will keep them out for the rest of the season.

Speaking to Radio Sheffield ahead of the game Rotherham coach Matt Hamshaw said he thinks the players have ‘loads left in the tank’ saying, ‘Physically they are good but mentally they aren’t used to losing football games and it’s tough. Our away form has been impressive, I think we’ve conceded the least goals away from home. We have some unbelievable games coming up starting at Portsmouth away and our players are chomping at the bit.’

Definitely missing for the Millers is Angus MacDonald who is out suspended but Richard Wood has recovered from a bout of sickness and Ben Wiles from a dead leg so will be included in the travelling squad.

David Rock from Hertfordshire has the whistle for this game.

It’s time for the millers to step up to the mark ,we have been incredibly poor for sometime yet getting away with it , Sutton was a prime example , the horror show against Shrewsbury and the clueless performance against Charlton cannot be repeated .

I have to agree Stuart. If this is our blip of the season it has definitely come at the wrong time – and we don’t seem to be able to do anything about it.
