Rotherham United welcome Cardiff City for their fifth league visit to the New York Stadium at the weekend.

The last time the Bluebirds were at the New York Stadium was in February 2021 which saw the game played as heavy snow fell. Sheyi Ojo put the visitors in front three minutes before half-time with Matt Crooks equalising just after the hour mark. After a yellow ball had to be brought on for the final fifteen minutes Joe Bennett gave the visitors all three points five minutes from time despite the Millers players asking for offside.

September 2016 saw the game goalless at half-time with Izzy Brown giving the hosts the lead on the hour mark. Unfortunately for Rotherham goals thirteen minutes and sixteen minutes later for Rickie Lambert gave the Bluebirds the win and saw them jump over the Millers and out of the Championship relegation places.

Rotherham last beat Cardiff on home soil in September 2015. After City ‘keeper David Marshall had lashed out at Matt Derbyshire and seen a red card on forty-one minutes, the resulting penalty was taken and scored by Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe. But the lead was short lived when four minutes into time added on in the first half Farrend Rawson brought Fabio down in the area Peter Whittingham smashing the penalty past Lee Camp to make it one-all. And when it looked like it would be a draw a Chris Maguire cross into the box was inadvertently deflected into his own net by Matthew Connolly giving the Millers their first league victory of the season.

March 2015 was the first time the pair met at the New York Stadium and it saw the Bluebirds three up before half-time with goals from Bruno Ecuele Manga, Federico Macheda and Conor McAleny with Danny Ward getting a consolation goal for the hosts

The last time Cardiff played at Millmoor was in November 2004 with the game seeing four goals in ten minutes of the second half. After a goalless first half the opening goal was scored on seventy minutes by City’s Joe Ledley which was followed four minutes later by a Paul Parry goal making it two-nil to the visitors. Two minutes after that Paul McLaren halved the deficit with Michael Proctor getting an equaliser on eighty minutes. Former Miller Alan Lee was up front for City that afternoon.

The corresponding fixture at the Cardiff City Stadium in October was a win for the hosts when Jaden Philogene-Bidace scored the only goal of the game on the sixty-fifth minute.
