Hamshaw Says The Team Has ‘Fighting Spirit’

|

Rotherham United Manager Paul Warne can’t be any happy tonight after his teams two-nil win over Bristol City this afternoon as it was a performance the fans have been crying out for for the last few weeks.

But it was First Team Coach Matty Hamshaw who gave his thoughts on iFOLLOW after the game saying it was ‘an excellent afternoons work’.

And it certainly was. The players played as a team and the score line probably flattered the visitors.

‘We’ve got character and fighting spirit,’ Hamshaw said, ‘and I think that came to the forefront today. We out fought, out battled Bristol City today and I’m sure Dean (Holden) will say the same and, at times, we outplayed them and that’s credit to our players.

‘We looked like we weren’t going to concede today and that’s a massive plus.’

And that is exactly right. If you don’t concede the other team can’t win and I thought we played well at both ends of the pitch this afternoon. The early goal helped and from there our confidence grew and grew while City looked like they couldn’t deal with us.

Delighted to go in two up at half-time but, and I’m sure I wasn’t alone, we know that there are times when we then think the job is done and so I was a little apprehensive of how the second half would unfold. I didn’t need to be. City had a couple of half chances and there was probably just one save that had to be made from Viktor Johansson who was starting just his second game.

All in all a very good performance and a very good deserved result.

Up The Millers.
